10th Annual Juried Student Art Show

The McNish Art Gallery at Oxnard College proudly presents the 10th Annual Juried Student Art Show, May 4 through May 19. A reception for the student artists will take place on Monday, May 4, 4:00-7:00 pm at the McNish Gallery with an awards ceremony at 4:30. OC President, Dr. Duran will select President’s Choice Award winners. The artwork selected will be part of OC’s permanent collection and displayed throughout the college. The Annual Student Show displays fine works of art by Oxnard College students in beginning, intermediate and advance levels of studio Art courses including drawing, painting, design and digital art. Artwork will be for sale.

The 10th Annual Juried Student Art Show was juried by local, professional artist, Monica Furmanski. Mrs. Furmanski has taught Art Appreciation, 2-D Art and Digital Photography for Oxnard and Ventura Colleges. She is the owner and gallery director of 643 Project Space in Ventura.

Excellence in Art Award

Congratulations to John del Rosario!

John del Rosario is the recipient of the Award for Excellence in Art from the Oxnard College Foundation for 2014. John is active in all of the creative clubs on campus and worked with after-school youth in the Arts this semester, bringing some of those kids’ work to the student art show. John is active in the art club, Zero Point, and in the Campus Garden Club and can often be seen zipping around, full of positive energy.  John was selected to represent excellence in the Arts because of his community service and creative energy, and in the Art Department we value both!

The Award Ceremony is Thursday, May 15th in the OC Performing Arts Building.  The reception is at 3 PM and the ceremony begins at 4 PM.  There will be free parking in H Lot from 2-6 during this ceremony.

You are invited to join Oxnard College in celebrating student art and sustainability on April 22nd – Earth Day, from 3-5 in the garden and from 5-7 at the McNish Art Gallery.  The juror of the OC Student Art Exhibition is Oxnard alumna, Maria Villote, who holds the position of museum assistant at the Carnegie Art Museum in Oxnard.  Also on view throughout the day is art by children and youth of Oxnard.  The event is FREE and open to the community.

Oxnard College Student Show juried by Young Chung opens May 8, 2013

The McNish Art Gallery at Oxnard College will present the 2013 Annual Student Show May 8 through May 15, 2013. A reception and awards ceremony for the student artists will take place from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. The Annual Student Show displays fine works of art by Oxnard College students in all levels of Studio Art classes taught by professors Ichiro Irie and Christine Morla.  The exhibition includes works by many students from various art disciplines including design, drawing, and painting as well as mixed media work and interdisciplinary projects.  The exhibited works show the talents of students in introductory and intermediate courses as well as the skills of advanced art students.

The student art exhibition was juried by professional artist, Young Chung. Mr. Chung received his M.F.A. degree from the School of the Art Institute, Chicago. He has exhibited nationally and internationally. Mr. Chung is an art writer and the gallery director/curator of Commonwealth and Council gallery in Los Angeles.

The McNish Art Gallery is located at 4000 South Rose Avenue, Oxnard, CA 93033. A reception for the artists will be held on Wedenesday, May 8, 2013, 4:00 – 6:00 pm. Refreshments will be served. The show is free and open to the public.

A reception for the student artists will take place on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, 1:00 – 4:00 pm in North Hall 7. Artwork will be for sale. The exhibit is a one-day only event. Oxnard College Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition

Oxnard College’s McNish Art Gallery will host its annual Student Juried Art Exhibition from April 20-May 4, 2011.
Artwork entries, including drawing, painting, design, ceramics, 3-D and mixed-media are open to only Oxnard College Students who were enrolled or currently enrolled in Fine Arts courses during the 2010-2011 school year.
The student art exhibition will be juried. Jurors are to be announced.

OC Art Department

The Fine Arts offers many courses listed in the college catalog in the areas of Two-Dimensional Art. Studies in the Fine Arts Include drawing, life drawing, painting, color and design, and printmaking. The Fine Arts program serves students seeking to transfer or to work towards an associate of art degree.

Oxnard College’s McNish Art Gallery is an integral part of instruction. It features eight exhibitions during the fall and spring semesters, which reflect professional work representing courses taught in the program. These include group and solo shows, a guest-curated show, and a juried student art show.

There is a very strong Ceramics Program at Oxnard College with students who develop their craft from beginner to advanced Ceramics levels. Students learning about the media of clay and learning how to sculpt, paint, and fire their ceramics work in the industry quality kilns in the department.
