Chilangolandia

Recent work from Mexico City
September 6 – October 5, 2007

The McNish Art gallery proudly presents, “Chilangolandia,” a group exhibition guest-curated by Los Angeles artist and Oxnard College professor, Ichiro Irie. Included are emerging artists and those in mid-career: Fernanda Brunet, Anibal Catalan, Arian Dylan, and Diego Teo. “Chilango” is a slang term used to describe people from Mexico City and “landia” is a Splangish word which simply means land. Together “Chilangolandia” simply means “land of people from Mexico City”, in other words, Mexico City. The exhibition is by no means meant to be a representative survey of art from Mexico City in terms of media, visibility, or trend, and is simply a minute cross section of works Irie had encountered during his 5 year residency in the Mexican capital.
