The McNish Art Gallery is pleased to present Seminal Transmissions, a group exhibition featuring selected works from the Santa Monica College Fine Art Mentor Program, curated by Ed Schad. The exhibition will open Thursday, February 19 and will be on view throughThursday, March 5. A reception for the artists will be held on Thursday, February 19, from 5:00-7:00pm.
The Santa Monica College Fine Art Mentor Program, helmed by Professors Ronn Davis, Kavin Buck, and Ichiro Irie, serves as a unique learning experience for a select group of students in the SMC Art department. Through conversation and interaction, the students in this show are challenged to explore their own work and those of others, and to solve problems in relevant and innovative ways. Students have the opportunity to work intensively with faculty members and visiting artists toward the development of individual bodies of work. Students are also exposed to different aspects of becoming an artist including the preparation of individual portfolios and gallery level preparation and installation practices.
